Supporting someone you love
Caregivers and whānau play a vital role — from the first consultation to day-to-day support. Here's how to help safely and confidently.

You are part of the conversation
Whānau and caregivers can attend consultations, ask questions, and help track how a treatment is going. Bring a list of all current medicines so the prescriber can check for interactions.
Watch, record, review
Keep a simple diary of doses, timing, benefits and side effects. 'Start low, go slow' means small changes over time — your notes help the prescriber fine-tune treatment safely.
Safety at home
Store products securely away from children and others, keep the pharmacy label with the product, and never share prescribed medicine. Be alert to sedation, dizziness and falls risk, especially in older people.
Know the driving rules
If you or the person you care for drives, understand the 2026 roadside-testing rules and the 12-hour ban. A prescription is not an automatic defence at the roadside.
Help them take the next step
Walk through the pathway together, or find a clinic that offers telehealth from home.
